Chasing Life w/ Parkinson’s. Prevention refers to actions that lower exposure to harmful triggers and to those that reduce the likelihood that vulnerable brain circuits will develop disease. Prevention can also refer to NOT worsening those same circuits w/ Parkinson's disease. Andrea Kane wrote a really nice piece for CNN Health that just dropped in the last 24 hours. Her article follows the recent podcast on the Parkinson's Plan by Sanjay Gupta. www.pdplan.org Key Points: - Parkinson’s is increasing worldwide faster than Alzheimer’s and affects multiple organs beyond the brain’s dopamine system. - Environmental exposures w/ water, air and food may contribute to many cases and represent opportunities for prevention. - Five daily habits including clean water, clean air, clean food, regular movement and high quality sleep may lower lifetime risk. My take: Folks, there are things we can do today. This does not mean that we should stop researching genetics and pursuing the 'why.' These 5 items are important whether or not you have Parkinson's. I am biased as I was interviewed for the article, so please read and make up your own mind. Here are the 5 points Andrea and I discussed: 1- Clean water reduces the load of pesticides and chemicals that can strain gut and brain pathways. 2- Clean air protects the nose to brain route where particulate matter and VOC's may trigger inflammation. 3- Clean food, through rinsing and scrubbing, lowers mitochondrial stress from pesticide residues. 4- Movement every day wakes up natural dopamine circuits and supports long term brain health. 5-Sleep strengthens the brain’s cleaning system and may help reduce toxin accumulation. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/12/09/health/parkinson-risk-reduction-wellness #fixelinstitute #michaeljokun #parkinson
