Early results from a Phase 1/2a clinical trial of ANPD001, Aspen Neurosciences' investigational stem cell therapy for Parkinson's disease, show promising safety in the first group of patients. Three participants, who received two escalating doses of the therapy injected directly into the brain, experienced no serious complications or severe blood loss during the procedure. The most common side effect was mild to moderate tongue swelling due to the surgical positioning. ANPD001 aims to replace lost dopamine-producing neurons by transforming a patient's skin cells into stem cells, which are then injected into the brain to restore dopamine production and potentially slow disease progression. The trial is evaluating the safety, motor symptom improvement, and long-term effectiveness of the treatment.
