CXS003: A New Parkinson's Drug Treatment in Development
December 15, 2024
LeahJSGuillaume Brachet, a biologist diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s at 29, is leading an ambitious effort to develop a new treatment for the disease. Drawing on his background in biology, pharmacy, and medical research, Guillaume formulated a theory that combining existing drugs could create a disease-modifying treatment for Parkinson’s. After developing a 60-page scientific rationale, he approached pharmaceutical companies, but they required additional research to support the idea.
Determined to advance the project, Guillaume raised €45,000 through a 150 km kayaking challenge on the Loire River in 2022. Two research organizations, Neuron Experts and Syncrosome, matched this funding, enabling laboratory research that yielded promising results in April 2023. Based on these findings, Guillaume founded CXS Therapeutics in September 2023 and patented the experimental drug, CXS003.
CXS Therapeutics focuses on advancing CXS003, while a subsidiary, Sappiens, is being launched to oversee its continued development. Guillaume is working as CEO of both companies, preparing for phase 2 clinical trials of CXS003 in 2024. If trials confirm its safety and efficacy, the drug could potentially reach the market by 2029 as a new option to slow the progression of Parkinson’s.
