The last patient has now completed the full treatment period in IRLAB’s Phase IIb study with pirepemat

LeahJSIrlab Therapeutics has announced that all patients have completed their final follow-up visits in a Phase 2b clinical trial evaluating pirepemat, an oral treatment designed to reduce falls in people with Parkinson’s disease. Top-line results from the trial are expected in the first quarter of the year. The study achieved a high completion rate, with 87% of participants finishing the trial, reflecting a low drop-out rate and high satisfaction reported by patients during the treatment period.
Pirepemat, previously known as IRL752, works by improving the strength of specific nerve signals in the brain. It targets 5HT7 and alpha-2 receptors, increasing levels of the neurotransmitters dopamine and noradrenaline, which play a role in motor control and attention. Falls are a common and serious complication in Parkinson’s, often leading to disability, and pirepemat aims to address this critical unmet need.
The Phase 2b REACT-PD trial (NCT05258071) tested two doses of pirepemat against a placebo over three months. The primary goal was to compare the rate of falls during treatment with the rate of falls in the month before the study. While the data remain blinded, Irlab reported that falls occurred less frequently during the study period, suggesting a potential benefit from the treatment. However, it is not yet clear if the reduction in falls is specifically linked to pirepemat.
“This marks an important milestone in our clinical development program for pirepemat,” said Kristina Torfgård, PhD, CEO of Irlab, highlighting the study’s promising progress.
