First patient dosed in EXIST Phase 2a study in Parkinson's disease
December 6, 2024
LeahJSBioArctic AB has started testing a new treatment, exidavnemab, in people with Parkinson’s disease as part of a Phase 2a study called EXIST. This treatment is designed to target clumps of a protein called alpha-synuclein, which may play a role in how Parkinson’s disease develops and progresses. The study will involve 24 participants in Europe and will test two different dose levels to see if the treatment is safe and well-tolerated. Researchers will also study its effects on key health markers in the blood and brain.
Earlier studies showed that exidavnemab stays in the body for a long time and works well at finding and targeting harmful protein clumps in the brain. BioArctic, a company known for developing innovative treatments for brain diseases like Alzheimer’s, hopes this new therapy could slow or stop the progression of Parkinson’s disease.
