Infudopa SubC®: A New Infusion Option for Advanced Parkinson’s Disease

Infudopa SubC®: A New Infusion Option for Advanced Parkinson’s Disease

July 10, 2025

People living with advanced Parkinson’s disease may soon have access to another infusion-based therapy aimed at better managing their symptoms. A new collaboration between Neuraxpharm, a European pharmaceutical company, and Dizlin Pharmaceuticals, a Swedish research group, has been announced to co-develop and commercialise Infudopa SubC®, a wearable infusion therapy for levodopa-carbidopa. A Growing Need for Device-Aided Therapies Parkinson’s is the fastest-growing neurological condition globally. As the disease progresses, many patients begin to experience motor fluctuations — times when their symptoms return between doses of oral medication. Oral levodopa, while effective early on, often becomes less predictable with time due to absorption and digestion issues. In response, device-aided therapies such as deep brain stimulation and intestinal levodopa infusions have emerged as options for managing advanced symptoms. More recently, subcutaneous levodopa infusion pumps — which deliver medication under the skin via a wearable device — have gained attention as a less invasive alternative. Infudopa SubC® joins this growing category of infusion-based therapies. What Is Infudopa SubC®? Infudopa SubC® is a ready-to-use formulation of levodopa and carbidopa designed for continuous subcutaneous delivery using a wearable pump. The aim is to provide more consistent symptom control throughout the day by avoiding the fluctuations often seen with oral medication. According to the companies, the system allows flexible dosing and is designed for ease of use, potentially offering patients greater independence in daily life. The device itself resembles others in development or use, such as ABBV-951 (now marketed as Produodopa) and other infusion systems that are already approved or undergoing regulatory review in the US and Europe. The Role of Neuraxpharm and Dizlin Under the agreement, Neuraxpharm will lead the commercialisation of Infudopa SubC® in Europe and other territories, while Dizlin Pharmaceuticals continues to support product development. According to both companies, this partnership is intended to speed up the availability of the therapy to patients with advanced Parkinson’s whose symptoms are no longer well controlled by oral medications. While neither company has announced a launch date, the agreement signals progress toward expanding treatment options in this space. Context: One of Several Emerging Options It’s worth noting that Infudopa SubC® is not the first therapy of its kind. Other subcutaneous levodopa formulations — such as foslevodopa/foscarbidopa (Produodopa) — have already demonstrated clinical benefit and are undergoing or have received regulatory approval. These treatments aim to improve quality of life by maintaining more stable levels of dopamine in the brain, which helps reduce motor complications. Each system varies in terms of pump size, drug formulation, patient usability, and flexibility of dosing. The introduction of multiple competing solutions suggests a trend toward greater personalisation in how Parkinson’s is managed in its later stages. Looking Ahead Whether Infudopa SubC® will offer significant advantages over existing or emerging therapies remains to be seen and will likely depend on factors such as ease of use, side effect profile, and clinical outcomes. For now, it represents another option in a growing toolkit for treating advanced Parkinson’s — one that may appeal to people seeking a non-surgical, continuous delivery system as their symptoms become more complex. As clinical development and regulatory processes move forward, further data will help clarify where Infudopa SubC® fits within the wider landscape of Parkinson’s treatment.
