Herantis Pharma has received €3.6m in funding from Parkinson’s UK’s Virtual Biotech programme and the Michael J. Fox Foundation to support its early-stage clinical trial and biomarker project for Parkinson’s disease (PD). The phase 1b trial will assess the safety and tolerability of HER-096 in PD patients and collect biomarker data. HER-096, previously tested in 60 healthy participants, showed no serious side effects. The new trial in Finland will involve 24 PD patients receiving regular injections of HER-096 over four weeks to evaluate safety and potential positive effects on brain cells. HER-096 aims to protect and restore dopamine-producing cells lost in PD. If successful, it could provide a less invasive treatment option. Researchers will also collect data to determine the optimal dosage for future studies.
