Adiso Therapeutics: Exploring the Gut-Brain Axis
November 25, 2025
Adiso Therapeutics is pursuing a novel approach to treating neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, by focusing on the complex relationship between the gut and the brain, known as the gut-brain axis. The company's lead product candidate is ADS024, an oral therapeutic designed to specifically target and resolve chronic inflammation along this pathway.
ADS024 is a "live biotherapeutic product" (LBP), which is essentially a natural, non-engineered strain of a common bacterium called Bacillus velezensis. This specific bacterium works in a unique way: once ingested, it produces a natural, small-molecule metabolite known as C15-sphingosine-1-phosphate, or C15-S1P for short.
This metabolite is the key active ingredient. It operates by interacting with specific receptors in the body, primarily LPAR3, which are involved in various cellular processes. By engaging the LPAR3 receptor, C15-S1P is believed to help moderate the body's inflammatory response and support the healthy function of mitochondria, which are the vital energy centers within our cells.
The underlying science suggests that dysregulation in the gut microbiome and subsequent inflammation contribute significantly to the progression of many age-related and neurodegenerative conditions. By using a natural, gut-derived molecule to intervene in this process, Adiso Therapeutics hopes to offer a new therapeutic strategy that goes beyond existing treatments which often just manage symptoms. The goal is to develop a safe, orally available treatment that could potentially modify the disease course of these challenging conditions. The company is actively working through the necessary clinical development phases to bring this innovative therapy to market.
