Crushed dried seeds of jujube fruit ease Parkinson’s in mouse model
November 18, 2024
LeahJSA study led by Dr. Takami Tomiyama at Osaka Metropolitan University found that crushed seeds of the jujube fruit (Zizyphi spinosi semen) eased motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, improved memory, and supported neurogenesis in a mouse model. The treatment reduced toxic alpha-synuclein clumps, increased brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and reversed aging markers, offering potential as a dietary supplement for neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. While promising, researchers emphasize the need to confirm the long-term safety of this simple processing method.
