Dopamine is the chemical that the brain loses as Parkinson’s progresses, causing problems with movement and other functions. Unlike current treatments, which often lose effectiveness over time, this new approach restores dopamine levels more effectively, leading to better control of movement and fewer side effects. In a recent study, patients using this therapy gained more hours of good motor control each day, reduced their need for oral medications by 60%, and felt more independent. Importantly, there were no serious side effects, and every participant chose to continue the treatment long-term. This breakthrough, developed by Professors David Devos and Caroline Moreau, could change how Parkinson’s is managed, offering a new option for those who haven’t found relief with existing treatments.
