A resident of County Durham, Anthony Quinn, is among the first in England to receive an innovative Parkinson’s disease treatment outside of specialized neuroscience centers. Provided by the Movement Disorder Team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Anthony is the first patient at the Trust to use Produodopa, a breakthrough therapy combining levodopa and foscarbidopa. Unlike traditional tablets, Produodopa is delivered continuously under the skin via a small pump for over 24 hours, reducing the need for multiple daily doses. This therapy has been life-changing for Anthony, significantly improving his motor symptoms, energy, and overall quality of life. He now enjoys activities like three-mile bike rides and late-night video gaming, previously impossible due to his condition. “This treatment has given me a new lease of life,” Anthony said, sharing how everyday tasks and hobbies have become manageable again. Produodopa represents a crucial advancement in treating Parkinson’s disease, the world’s fastest-growing neurological condition. The Trust’s Movement Disorder Team is proud to be the first outside neuroscience centers to offer this therapy, which can profoundly improve the lives of eligible patients. Jeremy Cundall, Executive Medical Director of the Trust, praised the team’s efforts, stating, “Introducing this groundbreaking therapy highlights our commitment to providing cutting-edge care that transforms patient outcomes and enriches lives.”
