A Turkish study found that practicing the "flamingo exercise," which involves standing on one leg, can improve balance and reduce fall risk in people with Parkinson’s disease. Better Results with Posture Feedback The benefits were even greater when the exercise was combined with the Tetrax Interactive Balance System (TIBS), an interactive device that provides real-time posture feedback. Study Design and Findings Researchers tested 124 Parkinson’s patients, dividing them into four groups: one practiced the flamingo exercise, another used TIBS, a third combined both methods, and a fourth performed only stretching exercises. After six weeks of training, those who combined flamingo training with TIBS showed the greatest improvements in balance and fall prevention. A More Effective Approach The results suggest that integrating both methods is more effective than using either one alone. These findings highlight the potential of targeted balance training to enhance stability and reduce fall-related risks in Parkinson’s disease.
