FDA OKs Parkinson’s clinical trial to test NouvNeu001 cell therapy

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Iregene Therapeutics to start a clinical trial for their cell therapy NouvNeu001, aimed at treating moderate to advanced Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson's disease happens when certain nerve cells in the brain, which produce a chemical called dopamine, stop working properly and die. Dopamine is important for controlling muscles, so when these cells are lost, it leads to Parkinson's symptoms. NouvNeu001 is a special type of cell made to treat Parkinson’s disease. These cells can develop into the dopamine-producing cells that are needed for movement control. They are directly injected into a specific part of the brain that is affected in Parkinson’s patients. These cells come from stem cells, which can become different types of cells in the body, including neurons. After being transplanted into the brain, they turn into new dopamine-producing cells, connect with existing brain cells, and help increase dopamine levels.
