A National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant of $414,191 has been awarded to researchers at Binghamton University and Drexel University to develop a brain-on-a-chip technology that mimics the human brain’s structure and function. The device, containing nerve cells and blood vessels, will help scientists study how harmful alpha-synuclein protein clumps, which are linked to Parkinson's and Lewy body dementia, spread throughout the brain. By using this innovative platform, researchers hope to uncover new insights into disease progression and improve treatment development for neurodegenerative disorders.
