Neu Health has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to launch its smartphone-based system that tracks tremor severity in people with Parkinson’s disease—without the need for wearable devices or in-clinic equipment. This tool is part of a broader platform designed to monitor both Parkinson’s and dementia symptoms remotely. 🔍 Why This Matters: Accessible, At-Home Monitoring Traditionally, tracking Parkinson’s symptoms requires clinic visits or specialized devices. Neu’s system makes it possible to monitor motor and nonmotor symptoms—such as tremor, gait, voice, balance, and cognition—using just a smartphone at home. This opens up a lower-cost, more accessible option for those living in rural or underserved areas with limited access to neurologists. 🧠 Proactive Care, Not Just Reactive The app helps identify early signs of neurological decline by using structured tests and machine learning to spot patterns in movement, speech, and behavior over time. This allows clinicians to intervene earlier, adjust treatment plans, and potentially slow disease progression. “For too long, we’ve treated brain health reactively… We can no longer wait for accidents to happen,” said Neu CEO Caroline Cake. 🇬🇧 Promising Early Results from the NHS The U.K.’s National Health Service (NHS) began using Neu’s platform in 2024. In the first six months: 105 patients completed over 49,000 digital assessments 90% of clinicians reported better care thanks to the platform 50% of patients had medication adjustments based on test results Quality of life improved by 12% on average Most patients felt more informed and confident managing their condition 👩‍⚕️ Clinician and Patient Satisfaction 83% of users found the app easy to use Many patients were able to schedule their own follow-ups and have virtual appointments, reducing travel and wait times All clinicians said the dashboard was useful for care decisions Neu has since improved the app’s design, simplifying features and making it more accessible for people with Parkinson’s and dementia. 🌍 Expanding Across the U.S. With Mass General Brigham in Boston already using the platform, Neu is expanding partnerships with other healthcare systems across the U.S., aiming to raise the standard of care for millions by making real-time, remote brain health monitoring a practical reality.
