Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) will soon offer focused ultrasound (FUS) as a minimally invasive treatment for movement disorders like tremor and Parkinson’s disease. This technology, guided by MRI, uses sound waves to ablate damaged brain tissue while preserving healthy areas. Expected to be available by late summer or fall, FUS allows patients to undergo treatment without surgery or anesthesia and return home the same day. It offers a new option for those who don't respond to medication. The ultrasound device used, Exablate Neuro, has shown positive results in reducing symptoms of Parkinson's disease in clinical studies.
