AbbVie has announced promising results from a Phase 3 trial for tavapadon, a potential new treatment for early-stage Parkinson’s disease. The trial showed that patients taking tavapadon experienced significant improvements in their ability to move and perform daily tasks compared to those taking a placebo. Tavapadon, taken once daily, works differently than existing treatments by targeting specific brain receptors (D1/D5) and has shown a good safety profile, with most side effects being mild or moderate. These results support tavapadon as a potential first-of-its-kind treatment for Parkinson’s, addressing both symptoms and quality of life. AbbVie plans to seek FDA approval in 2025.
