Jupiter Neurosciences Partners with Zina Biopharmaceuticals to Advance Phase 2a Parkinson’s Trial
February 3, 2025
LeahJSJupiter Neurosciences is preparing a Phase 2a clinical trial to test Jotrol, an oral formulation of resveratrol, as a potential treatment for Parkinson’s disease. The trial is being conducted in partnership with Zina Biopharmaceuticals, who will assist with key aspects of the trial protocol, including identifying biomarkers and selecting trial sites. The primary goal of the trial is to assess the safety of Jotrol in individuals with Parkinson’s, as well as to evaluate its pharmacological properties.
Resveratrol is a compound with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which may help address the inflammation and oxidative stress associated with Parkinson’s disease. However, resveratrol’s use has been limited by digestive side effects when taken at high doses. Jotrol, developed by Jupiter, utilizes a micellar formulation to make resveratrol more tolerable while maintaining its therapeutic properties. Preliminary studies have shown that Jotrol improved motor function in a mouse model of Parkinson’s. This clinical trial marks a significant step forward in the development of Jotrol as a potential treatment for Parkinson’s and other neurological diseases.
