A New Way to Deliver Parkinson’s Medication
July 16, 2025
LeahJSNeuraxpharm and Dizlin Pharmaceuticals have joined forces to develop Infudopa SubC, a wearable drug-device combination that delivers continuous levodopa-carbidopa—a gold-standard Parkinson’s treatment—through the skin.
🎯 Designed for Advanced Parkinson’s
Infudopa SubC is being developed for people with advanced Parkinson’s disease who experience motor symptom fluctuations (also known as “off” periods), even while on medication. By providing a steady dose of levodopa and carbidopa throughout the day, the device aims to reduce symptom variability and improve quality of life.
🧪 Promising Clinical Trial Results
In a Phase 1 clinical trial, Infudopa SubC showed similar effectiveness to Duopa (a more invasive intestinal infusion therapy), reducing symptoms like bradykinesia (slowed movement) and dyskinesia (involuntary movement). Importantly, Infudopa SubC achieved comparable levodopa levels in the blood and delivered medication at the same speed as Duopa.
It also led to higher carbidopa levels in the bloodstream, suggesting better absorption and potentially improved therapeutic effects.
💉 Less Invasive, More Convenient
Unlike Duopa, which requires a surgical procedure and hospital care, Infudopa SubC is a non-invasive, wearable solution. It could offer people greater freedom, flexibility, and independence in managing their symptoms.
✔ Can be stored up to 3 years in a fridge or 3 months at room temperature
✔ Potentially easier to use while traveling or on the go
✔ May eliminate the need for surgery and hospital stays
🌍 Looking Ahead
Neuraxpharm and Dizlin aim to bring Infudopa SubC to market quickly, expanding access for people in the advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease. Their goal is to offer a more practical, effective, and life-enhancing therapy to support better daily functioning and long-term care.
🧠 Why It Matters
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder caused by the loss of dopamine-producing brain cells. While levodopa-carbidopa remains the most effective treatment, many people eventually experience motor fluctuations. Continuous delivery systems like Infudopa SubC represent a hopeful step forward in symptom management.
