Parkinson Symptom Severity and Use of Nutraceuticals

Parkinson Symptom Severity and Use of Nutraceuticals

April 21, 2023

A new study on Parkinson’s disease (PD) and supplements: Over half of the people with PD take supplements like vitamins, herbal supplements or nutraceuticals. The study surveyed over 1,000 people with PD and found that certain supplements may help reduce symptoms. Vitamin D, B12, C, and fish oil were the most commonly used supplements. Supplements like Ginkgo biloba, NAD+, glutathione, mucuna, CoQ10, curcumin, and omega-3 fatty acids were associated with fewer symptoms. No supplements were linked to worse outcomes. These findings suggest that some supplements could help reduce PD symptoms and should be studied further in clinical trials.
