If you’re living with Parkinson’s and covered by Medicare, you might be feeling the pinch of rising medication costs. Even with insurance, those monthly prescriptions—especially for levodopa and other essential Parkinson’s meds—can still leave a dent in your budget. Here’s some welcome news: The HealthWell Foundation has reopened its financial assistance fund specifically for people with Parkinson’s disease who are on Medicare. That means if you're struggling to afford your out-of-pocket costs, you might now qualify for extra help. What does the fund cover? This fund is designed to help people with Medicare insurance pay for: Prescription drug copayments Insurance premiums Deductibles and coinsurance The aim is simple: to make sure you can stick to your treatment plan without having to choose between your medication and other essentials. To qualify, you must: Be diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease Be covered by Medicare Meet certain income limits Be receiving treatment in the U.S. Applying is free, and you can find all the details—including how to apply—on the HealthWell Foundation’s website. Another option: The PAN Foundation And if you don’t qualify for HealthWell or the fund is temporarily closed? The PAN Foundation is another non-profit that helps cover the high out-of-pocket costs of medications for people with Parkinson’s. It’s always worth checking both organisations to see what support is currently available. Where to find both? You can find up-to-date details about both the HealthWell Foundation and PAN Foundation—including how to apply and who to contact—inside the PD Directory in the Hub section of the PD Buddy App.
