Vaccine for early Parkinson’s showing safety in Phase 2 trial
November 18, 2024
LeahJSACI-7104, an experimental vaccine being developed by AC Immune for early-stage Parkinson's disease, has shown promising results in a Phase 2 clinical trial, demonstrating safety and tolerability while significantly increasing anti-alpha-synuclein antibodies. This immunotherapy targets the toxic alpha-synuclein clumps that damage dopamine-producing neurons, a key factor in Parkinson’s progression. Interim findings from the trial indicate that the vaccine is well-tolerated, with no major safety concerns, and its ability to induce a strong immune response. Further trial data expected in 2025 will determine whether the trial progresses to a larger patient group to gather more evidence of the vaccine's potential benefits.
