Next-Gen Brain Implant Uses a Graphene Chip A brain-computer interface from the startup Inbrain could help Parkinson's patients

A Barcelona startup, Inbrain Neuroelectronics, has developed a new brain implant made of graphene and is preparing for its first human trial. This brain-computer interface (BCI) records brain signals and sends them to a computer for analysis. Unlike traditional metal-based BCIs, Inbrain’s graphene-based implant can both record and stimulate the brain without losing effectiveness over time. This is because graphene avoids problematic reactions that degrade metal chips. The first human test will involve using the chip to help surgeons remove a brain tumor with high precision. In the future, Inbrain aims to use this technology to treat conditions like Parkinson’s disease by reducing the amount of medication needed and improving symptom management.
