Stress and mindfulness in Parkinson’s disease – a survey in 5000 patients
April 21, 2023
The study investigated how stress affects people with Parkinson's disease (PD). They surveyed 5,000 PD patients and 1,292 healthy controls about their stress levels, symptoms, and stress-reducing strategies. The results showed that PD patients experienced more stress than the control group, and stress worsened both motor and non-motor symptoms. Physical exercise was the most common stress-reducing strategy, but mindfulness was also effective and improved both motor and non-motor symptoms. The study suggests that mindfulness and other stress-reducing interventions should be studied further to establish their benefits for PD patients.
