People with Parkinson's disease (PD) have both movement and non-movement symptoms. One common issue is heart problems, which can be dangerous. Regular treatments help with movement problems but don't stop the disease or help with heart issues. Good nutrition can influence long-term health, so researchers studied propolis, a natural bee product, for its potential benefits. In the study, male rats were given a chemical to create Parkinson-like symptoms and then treated with propolis. The researchers looked at heart rate (HR), heart rate variability (HRV), and brain damage in these rats. They found that propolis improved HR and HRV, and also protected brain cells from damage. Propolis helped reduce the loss of brain cells important for movement and improved heart function in the rats. This suggests that propolis could be a promising natural treatment to protect both the heart and brain in Parkinson’s disease.
