OneRF Ablation System can target brain areas marked by neuronal loss
November 12, 2024
LeahJSZimmer Biomet has secured exclusive rights to distribute NeuroOne’s OneRF Ablation System, a new tool for treating Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. Approved by the FDA in December 2023, OneRF uses thin, flexible electrodes to monitor brain activity and apply controlled heat to selectively destroy damaged tissue. For Parkinson’s patients, this system targets specific brain areas affected by neuronal loss, such as the thalamus and globus pallidus, to help relieve motor symptoms like tremors, stiffness, and involuntary movements.
The partnership includes an upfront $3 million payment to NeuroOne, along with potential milestone payments, allowing NeuroOne to benefit from Zimmer Biomet’s established robotics and distribution networks. NeuroOne has reported initial successes with bedside ablation cases, which can reduce hospital stays and costs, enhancing patient access to this innovative therapy.
