An international task force led by the Neurology Clinic at the University Hospital of Marburg (Prof. Wolfgang Oertel), in collaboration with the Neurology Clinic at LMU Munich (Prof. Michael Strupp), has published two remarkable patient cases today. Treatment with the modified amino acid acetyl-DL-leucine was able to prevent disease progression for 22 months in both cases during an early stage of Parkinson’s disease, with some disease markers even showing improvement. These are preliminary observations and do not claim high levels of evidence. However, the results are so compelling that clinical studies are expected to follow shortly.
